  The purpose of the Holy Spirit

Intro:  What is the best gift you have ever received for your birthday?

Study

  1. James 1:15, Rom 6:23 In all countries, all cultures, in all parts of the world the problem of sin is the same! The Bible tells us that the consequence of sin is death.
    1. Mark 16:15 Every one of us as Christians are called to the same purpose, to win as many people to Jesus as we possibly can! We are called to reach the world!
      1. Luke 24:49 After Jesus gave the disciples the great commission, He told them to wait for the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit they would need in order to fulfil the great commission. The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to anoint us to reach the world!
      2. Acts 1:8 The Holy Spirit came at Pentecost to anoint the disciples to reach the world with the Gospel!
    2. Isaiah 6:8  We need to be willing to share Jesus with whoever God leads us to, and we need to be willing to go wherever God leads us to go no matter how dangerous it may be. The safest place that we can be in this world is in the perfect will of God!
  2. 1 Thess 1:5, Mathew 4:19 The Holy Spirit will empower us to reach the lost all around us who are in our schools, universities, work, neighborhoods, cities, nations, and even in other countries around the world with the Gospel!
    1. Isaiah 50:4 The Holy Spirit will give us the right words to say when we go out to evangelize and win the lost.
      1. 2 Timothy 1:7 The Holy Spirit will also anoint us to overcome every fear that may try
        and hold us back from sharing the Gospel with the lost.
      2. Rev 3:20 The Holy Spirit will also work in the hearts of those who we are evangelizing so that those who are ready to accept Jesus are open when we share Christ with them.
    2. 1 Cor 12:8-11, Acts 28:31 The Holy Spirit will anoint us, and God will equip us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we can evangelize the lost. In the next several lessons in this series we will study the 9 gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us so we can #Reachtheworld!

1. Why is it so important that we have the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit in order to be effective in reaching the world?

2. Can you share a time when the Holy Spirit anointed you with boldness and you fearlessly shared the gospel directly with those who were lost? what happened?

3. Can you share a testimony of a time when the Holy Spirit gave you the right words to speak when you went out to evangelize? what happened?

4. Is there anyone you know who is lost that you have been afraid to evangelize and share Jesus with? What is your plan to overcome your fears and boldly share Jesus with them now?

End: Pray for those who want to be filled with the Holy Spirit so they can reach the world with the Gospel. Pray for any who need to accept Christ, then take requests.
