Overcoming the Fear of Evangelism

 

Intro: What is something you were afraid of when you were a child?

Study

  1. Mark 16:15-18, Acts 4:12 God has called us as Christians to evangelise, when we know Christ we have the responsibility to reach out and share Christ with others.
    1. Matt 5:14-16 Satan wants to keep us silent, if he cant keep you from personally accepting Christ, he will try to keep you from leading others to Christ.
      1. 2 Tim 1:7, 1 John 4:18 One of the greatest weapons satan uses to keep Christians from evangelism is fear.
      2. Romans 1:16 Many Christians are afraid of what people will think of them, or they are afraid they wont have the right words to say.
    2. Mark 13:11, Mt 10:19 God promises to anoint us and give us the right words to say when we share Christ with others.
  2. Matthew 14:25-29 The way we overcome our fear of evangelism is to face our fears, we need to step out and share Christ with others.
    1. Matthew 14:30-33 God will meet us on the other side of taking this step of obedience, when we obey Christ and step out in evangelism, Christ will meet us there.
      1. Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8 Gods purpose for sending the anointing the Holy Spirit is for evangelism, and for doing the work of the ministry.
      2. Eph 6:18 Each of us should be watching and praying for daily opportunities to evangelize and lead others to Christ.
    2. Deut 30:19, Jude 1: 23 God wants to use us to reach this generation, we must be willing to face our fears, trust God, step out and evangelize.

Discussion

  1. Is there anyone here tonight who is afraid to share Christ with others? What are some of your fears in evangelism?
  2. Give an example of a time when you stepped out and shared Christ with someone? What happened? How did you feel after you stepped out?
  3. In your every day life, what are some daily opportunities you have to share Christ with others?
  4. Is there someone in your life you have been afraid to share Christ with? If so who is it and why?
