Overcoming the Fear of Evangelism

Intro: What is something you were afraid of when you were a kid, that you no longer fear?

Study

  1. Mt 28:18-20, 2 Tim 1:7 As we all know, God has given us this command, each of us are called to evangelize and win people to Christ, fear is not a part of Gods plan.
    1. 1 John 4:18 Rom 8:15 Fear is what Satan puts in our minds to stop us from obeying God, and keep us from leading people to Christ.
      1. John 8:44 Satan wants all of us to believe that we won’t know what to say, we will sound bad, and no one will listen to us, these are lies.
      2. Isaiah 43:1+5, Mt 10:19 The truth is we don’t have anything to worry about, God has promised he will give us the words to say, all we have to do is step out.
    2. Joshua 24:15 Those who step out and trust God, facing every fear, are those God uses to change the world, every great man or woman of God must face fear.
  2. Matthew 14:25-29 Overcoming fear always requires us to face that fear, trust God and step forward doing the very thing you are afraid to do.
    1. Matt 14:30-33 God will meet you on the other side of taking that step, when we actually step out and share Christ with others, God always meets us there.
      1. Eph 6:12 Satan’s greatest weapon is fear, he keeps people chained with fear, its when we face fear that we overcome fear, and accomplish our purpose.
      2. Mark 9:24 Overcoming fear is a process, we take one step at a time, facing new fears when God asks us to step out in greater ways, we learn to trust God.
    2. Jude 1: 23, Isaiah 41:10 God wants to use this generation to reach the lost in a great way, we must be willing to face our fears, trust God, and evangelize.

  1. What were some of your fears the first time you shared Christ with someone? How did you overcome those fears?
  2. Give an example of a time when you faced fear that tried to stop you from obeying what God was telling you to do, what happened?
  3. What was a fear that God personally delivered you from? Are there any fears you are currently dealing with right now? If so what are they?
  4. Is there anyone here tonight who is currently dealing with fear of sharing Christ with others? What are you afraid of?
