 Helping others discover their true Identity!

 

Intro: Share a time when someone else helped you out in a great way

Study

  1. 2 Cor 5:17, John 3:3 When we accept Jesus as our savior, we begin a completely new life in Christ, we start the journey of discovering our true identity.
    1. Rom 10:13-15 Once we discover our true identity in God, God wants us to then help others discover their true identity in Christ as well.
      1. Gen 1:27 In the beginning God made man in his image and man found his peace, purpose and his identity in God.
      2. Gen 3:1-5 When Adam and Eve fell into sin the closeness between man and God was shattered and man lost his true identity.
    2. James 1:15, Prov 16:25 Since the fall man has been searching to recover his lost identity, many people search for their identity in relationships, addictions, sinful lifestyles, fornication, homosexuality, etc….
  2. Psalms 62:1-2 We must understand that since we were made in Gods image, we will only feel complete, find true peace, and joy when we find our identity in Christ.
    1. 2 Cor 5:20, Jude 1:23 Once we personally accept Christ and find our true identity in him, God then wants us to help others discover their identity in Christ as well.
      1. Jer 29:11-13The way we help others discover who they really are is by sharing Christ with them, when people accept Christ, they find their true identity!
      2. 1 Cor 3:6-8 Their are many ways we can share Christ with others, through evangelism on the streets, by inviting them to church and cell groups, by consistently planting seeds with our words and example.
    2. Isaiah 6:8, Matt 28:18-20 We also need to be willing to go to wherever God leads us to go, wether that is right here at home or on the others side of the world!

 

Discussion

  1. What are some of the main things this generation is looking to in its search for identity?
  2. What are some of the many negative consequences when we search for our identity in wrong relationships, and other things outside of God?
  3. Share a time when God used you to share Christ with someone who was unsaved was lost in sin?
  4. What group of people, or what area do you really feel God is calling you to reach out to? What steps are you taking to reach those people?

 

End: Pray for any who need to get saved, or rededicate their lives to Christ, then pray for any you know who need to find their identity in Christ, then take requests.
