“ No footholds! ”
Intro: What is your favorite book to read?
Study
- Acts 9:1-6 Like Paul many youth and young adults have powerful encounters with God at camps, crusades, and in church and their lives are forever changed.
- 1 Kings 18:20-21 There are many other youth, however who return from a great encounter with God and fall back into the same old relationships, habits, and sinful lifestyles.
- Jer 3:22 It is not Gods will that we remain stuck in a cycle of being on-fire for a while then backsliding. God wants to break the cycle of backsliding once and for all in our lives!
- Eph 4:27 One of the main reasons many youth and young adults backslide and fall away from God is because they allow footholds to remain in their personal lives.
- Psalms 1:1-2 A Foothold is an area of compromise, sinful relationship, addiction, habit, an open door where the devil can gain access into our lives, influence us, and pull us down.
- 1 Kings 18:20-21 There are many other youth, however who return from a great encounter with God and fall back into the same old relationships, habits, and sinful lifestyles.
- 1 Peter 5:8-9 In order to remain strong, consistent, and on-fire for God, we as Christians need to eliminate all footholds, compromise, and open doors to the devil in our lives.
- 1 Cor 15:33 For some there are wrong friendships and/or dating relationships that always seem to pull you back down, you must be willing to end those relationships once and for all!
- Hosea 4:6 For others the footholds are opportunities and situations that cause you to fall into sin. You need to avoid putting yourself in situations you know cause you to fall.
- S.S. 2:15 For many others there are wrong influences, music, movies, internet that you struggle to let go of that create the environment to fall back into sin.
- Gen 3:9, 2 Cor 6:17 If we are serious about our commitment to Christ, and being on-fire for God, then we must make strong firm decisions, end wrong relationships, cut off opportunities to sin, and get rid of all bad influences and footholds! Where are you?
- 1 Cor 15:33 For some there are wrong friendships and/or dating relationships that always seem to pull you back down, you must be willing to end those relationships once and for all!
Discussion
- What are some of the most common footholds we as youth and young adults need to avoid in order to remain on fire for God?
- What are some steps we can take to make sure that we have no area in our life where we are giving the devil a foothold?
- Why do you feel so many want to hold onto wrong relationships, bad influences and footholds in their lives rather than get rid of them and surrender them to God?
- Is there anyone here tonight who feels that there are footholds in your life you need to surrender to God? if so what footholds do you want to surrender to God?
End: Pray for any who need to accept Christ or recommit their lives to Christ, and pray for any who need to surrender any footholds to God, then take requests.
